Destination wedding is a wedding that isn’t in the bride or groom’s hometown, or current place of residence. Brides planning a hometown wedding are generally familiar with a lot of the best wedding venues in the area, they know instinctively which hotels to suggest to out-of-town guests and, while they might not know the names of the most reputable catering companies, they can reach out to other friends and get recommendations. Yet, why do people go for destination weddings?
Destination Weddings Are the ‘In’ Thing
Destination weddings have become popular in recent years, and it is estimated that about 15% of all weddings are now destination weddings. The most important reason is, it is the ‘in’ thing. Their friends are doing it, so why shouldn’t they? Going to exotic locales make the couple feel special. They also view it as more exciting and romantic than a close to home wedding. They can say “I do” virtually anywhere with as many or as few guests as they choose.
In addition to great locations, an advantage of destination weddings is that they are typically less expensive for the couple. Yes you heard right. Less expensive! The couple just pays for their accommodations, travel costs and the venue charges. Guests are expected to pay for their own accommodations and travel costs. However, couples can elect to pay for the accommodations of their guests and even cover the travel costs. It all depends on their wedding budget.
Destination weddings can be more relaxed, which further reduces or eliminates the costs associated with bridesmaid gowns and tuxedo rentals. In fact they can wear different types of dresses and they don’t even need bridesmaid. Destination Weddings at San Miguel de Allende, can be extremely relaxed with dress code being casual attire and sandals.
Destination weddings are typically smaller than traditional weddings, with the guest count ranging from just the bride and groom and around 50 or 60 guests. It all depends on the location. The farther guests need to travel, the more expensive and perhaps less likely guests are to attend. So they save and save.
All said and done it makes great sense to plan a destination wedding. The couple gets a romantic wedding in an exotic place, with people who really matter to them and they also save their hard earned money. So now there are at least three excellent reasons to tie the knot at a ‘destination’ and start the married life with a bang!
